REVIEW: Domine - Dragonlord Dragonheart Records, 1999
7/10
Domine - Dragonlord - cover art Yet another boring release from the europower metal scene I thought at first about this album. I'm not a big fan of power metal in general and this is definitely not one of my favourite albums but Domine was at least a small positive surprise to me. As many others of the new Italian bands like Power Symphony and Rhapsody they are very much inspired by classical music like Beethoven and Mozart. They have also found musical inspiration in works by Manowar, Thin Lizzy, Gary Moore and others. Musically this album is pretty much straight forward power metal with classic genre vocals. It has got some short beautiful symphonic passages as well as heavier melodic ones but other than that I find this album to get rather boring in the end (as I do with most power metal albums...). However, if you are a power metal fan this might be something worth listening to. Sometimes the vocals sound almost like Iced Earth but the music of Domine is more powerful and vivid, spiced with orchestral arrangements. The lyrics are pretty typical phantasy writings and inspired by the works of Michael Moorcock. Dragonlords is one of the better power metal releases during the last few years and was recorded at New Sin Audio Design, Loria by Louis Stefanini with final mastering at Nagravity Studio - Firenze - by Mary Nulricati.
