REVIEW: Dominici - O3 A Trilogy - Part 2 InsideOut Music, 2007
7.5/10
Dominici - O3 A Trilogy - Part 2 - cover art After a long period of silence original Dream Theater vocalist Charlie Dominici made a return to the music business when he bounced back with his new progressive metal act Dominici last year. I haven't heard the debut album but the sophomore effort is a treat for any lover of progressive music. It is a very diverse creation where technical perfection meets a strong sense of melodic song writing. Heavy metal riffs are combined with calm and atmospheric sections and Charlie's voice is able to portray a wide array of emotions as he takes you along an interesting storyline. I must honestly admit that I think James LaBrie is a more unique vocalist than Charlie Dominici but his voice still holds up well enough to front a strong album. Opening an album with an 8 minute instrumental as they have done with "The Monster" might be considered a bold move but it sets the scene perfectly for what is to come and showcases everything that Dominici is all about. Dominici's sophomore album is very rich in texture and it will most surely be of interest to any fan of progressive music.
