Talking about "feeling" in music without talking about this album will be pretty hard in the next future. In their new album, the fifth of their career, the ever-evolving Austrian band Dornenreich seem to have reached a complete, mature consciousness of how feeling, intensity and passion have to
be included in music. "Durch Den Traum" - Through the Dream - has been recorded during the same sessions from which the previous album "Hexenwind" came out: so what we have here is another mystic and passionate journey into grey-toned oniric soundscapes in which simply guitar riffs and that whispered voice are the centers around all other sounds revolve, mainly ambient and folkish inserts. Songs have no titles, yet the entire album has to be considered as just a great, unique song divided in many passages with words used as a red-thread. Eviga, the only creative force of Dornenreich since co-founder Valnes
left the band last year, shows how he has refined his skills both as a composer and a storyteller. "Durch Den Traum" is the tale of a man lost in his own visions, a dark, overwhelming dream where the boundaries between nature and men became undefinite. Songs like "II" introduce psychedelic elements in a fragile yet powerful structure which is simply mesmerizing in any of its ten minutes of length. An even more complex song like "III" again indulges in folk-progressive roots; the eerie, fascinating atmosphere of these epic songs illuminates all the rest of the journey. Faster and slower, the songs alternate very eclectic and different passages which have in common the same, deep beauty of the riffs and the creepy sounds. Every song has its climax,
breath-taking moments perfectly planned by Eviga, and songs like "VI" stand out with a dramatically intense appeal. But every moment of this wonderful journey
cannot prepare ourselves for the last song, "VIII", an incredible, magic fade-out riff slowly repeated for the entire duration of the song, the perfect conclusion of this dreamy album. So simple and effective, so familiar yet so intensely personal and introspective, "Durch Den Traum" really come close to perfection.
