REVIEW: Dragster - New Times (EP) Self-financed, 2001
7/10
Dragster - New Times (EP) - cover art Brazilian metal bands can be classified in three categories - those who resemble Angra, death metal bands á la Krisiun and then Sepultura. Now most people probably realize that the music scene in Brazil is a lot more diverse than that, a fact that Dragster is living proof for. Dragster is a band who have their musical roots to be found in the thrash metal of the 80's but apart from bands like Exodus, Slayer and Testament they also find inspiration in the works of Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and Dream Theater. Those who like the aforementioned thrash metal bands should be aware of the fact that Dragster relies a little more on heaviness than speed although there are plenty of both on this short EP. Brazil has a lot more to offer than what we have seen so far and it would be a shame if more people didn't discover this promising new band from São Paulo. They aren't exactly a new band since the band was formed in 1998 but I don't think many of you have heard of them before. This is an interesting album with plenty of nice riffs and the sound quality is also very good which helps a lot.
