REVIEW: Dream Evil - DragonSlayer Century Media, 2002
9/10
Dream Evil - DragonSlayer - cover art Dream Evil is the latest in a long row of so called allstar bands that has been popping out of the dark during the last couple of years. This band features several names that should be well-known to most metal fans today. Here we find the former King Diamond drummer Snowy Shaw, the Swedish producer wizard Fredrik Nordström, the Greek guitar genious Gus G. (Firewind, Mystic Prophecy) together with Peter Stålfors and the vocalist Niklas Isfeldt who both have been involved with Hammerfall earlier on. The expectations should be set high for this debut album and the result is simply amazing. This is one of the best pure heavy metal albums to come out of Sweden for a long time. Without falling into the power metal trap these guys have managed to create something that will be appreciated for a long period of time. Even if the lyrics are pretty lousy the music is very impressive. This is the way heavy metal is meant to sound like and the amazing vocal appearance of Niklas Isfeldt only add to this close to perfect release from a new band that we will see a lot more from in the future, at least I together with thousands of others hope so. Killer tracks: "Chasing The Dragon", "In Flames You Burn", "The Chosen Ones" and the anthem-like "Heavy Metal In The Night".
