REVIEW: Dream Into Dust - No Mans Land Chthonic Streams, 1997
6/10
Dream Into Dust - No Mans Land - cover art When you listen to a release from Chthonic Streams you know beforehand that it will be dark and experimental but also that it is a quality release within the genre of dark electronic music. Dream Into Dust is a band that's been around since 1995 but was then called December, a name appropriately linked to the cold atmosphere of the music. In 1997 came their first cd release which I am reviewing only now since I wasn't very much into the scene at that time. Derek Rush is the man behind this one-man journey into the darkest depths of experimental music but on this recording he was backed up by noise guitarist Bryin Dall (4th Sign Of The Apocalypse) and guitarist Patrick Hogan (Bitter Grace), two men well-known to the ones who are following the dark noise scene. I like some of the electronic and orhectral arrangements on this album but I am still having a hard time with the noisier elements of the music which are more evident at the end of the disc. The spoken lyrics are very efficient and well-executed though and altogether this is a respectable piece of dark electronic art.
