REVIEW: Dream Into Dust - The World We Have Lost Elfenblut Records, 1999
6.5/10
Dream Into Dust - The World We Have Lost - cover art Derek Rush is a busy man dedicated to creating alternative music for a new age. He has worked together with bands like A Murder Of Angels, Loretta's Doll, Of Unknown Origin and 4th Sign Of The Apocalypse to mention some but Dream Into Dust is his own one man project since 1995. This is the only full-length album so far but another one is planned for the future to be released via World Serpent Distribution. Compared to the MCD "No Man's Land" from 1997 this album is a lot more mature with more organized and well-layered music yet still daring and far from a mainstream sound. Sometimes Dream Into Dust make me think of Eurythmics, one of the best bands in the history of music, but with a darker and noisier approach. To add to the somber and orchestral atmosphere violinist Eddy Malave from the Arethusa String Quartet has been engaged in the recording of this album. The violin is one of the most beautiful acoustic instruments and I wish there would be more of it in today's alternative scene as well as on this album since it is used rather scarcely. The UK based label Misanthropy Records was laid to rest in the year 2000 but it will forever be remembered for several high quality releases of which this is one (Elfenblut was a division of Misanthropy). Nothing spectacular but a nice release to check out if you like experimental ambient music of any kind.
