To many people the highlight in the prosperous career of Dream Theater was when their album "Images And Words" was released back in 1992 but I am of a different opinion. To me this is one of the few bands who have been growing stronger with each new release ever since. Even though they will probably never be able to top the 23 minute opus on the "Change Of Seasons" disc they continue to be the leading force in the progressive metal field. With this album begins a new era in the history of the band. They have finally managed to find the perfect balance between slow passionate songs and fast progressive ones. When the band let it go in their most creative moments they come up with some amazing songs that make you realize that these guys are easily some of the most technically skilled musicians in the world. Dream Theater have also been blessed with the wonderful voice of James LaBrie and without him they could not have got away with the slower tunes of the album. Lyrically this is a sad story about a young girl who was murdered and this also reflects in the vocals and music. I like the more experimental material on this album the most such as the jazzy influences that can be heard on a few spots. Dream Theater are almost without any real competition on the progressive scene today and this album is definitely one of the highlights in the history of music. Just listen to the song "Home" and you will immediately know what makes this band so special.
