REVIEW: Dreamaker - Human Device Arise Records, 2004
8/10
Dreamaker - Human Device - cover art When drummer Jorge Sáez, guitarist Albert Maroto and female vocalist Elisa C.Martin left Dark Moor they still wanted to play music. They started Dreamaker. They began searching for another guitar player and found an Argentinean guy named Matias Sosa who got the job. Later on Carlos Peña joined up on bass. In September 2003 they went to Finland and Sonic Pump Studios and had Nino Laurenne from Thunderstone recording their debut album, “Human Device”. And how great it came out to be! It sounds a little bit like the Italian power metal of Rhapsody, but much more Finnish and it speaks to me more than Rhapsody’s music too. It is perceptible that the members have been playing music for a while. You can hear their routine but they use it well. No showing off or something like that. Their use of keyboards I like very much, the harmonies. All the instruments play together. This is a very good record to listen to if you (in my case anyway) feel a little depressed and / or tired. It really gets me going again. And I like the growling on “Welcome To My Hell” and the choirs on the same track are great too. That is one thing they could have used more, choirs. I miss them sometimes. Otherwise it’s great. Elisa has that anger / anxiousness in her voice that fits the music very well. It’s harder to make good power metal than good death metal but Dreamaker succeeds and this is great if you like melodic but still “tough” heavy / power metal.
