REVIEW: Drohm - The Oracles Of Darkened Time (demo) Self-financed, 2001
6/10
Drohm - The Oracles Of Darkened Time (demo) - cover art Drohm is the brainchild of New Hampshire based musician Travis Lorden and it was given birth to in 1994. Over the years the band has undergone a couple of lineup changes and has also been put on ice for a while. Now this three-piece has set out to try to get a record deal. This new promo contains their newest creations which musically lies on the border between black and death metal, perhaps a little closer to black, especially considering the vocals and lyrics. The compositions are fairly good and with several nice melodic riffs but still as a whole it feels a bit insipid and even monotonous at times. The vocals are rather strong and varies between usual black metal screeches and some kind of dark death growling. The sound quality is one of the reasons why this demo at first seems worse than it actually is; the guitars and vocals generally sound good but the drums and some of the vocals has not been given the chance to shine by the producer/studio. Something I like about Drohm is their ability to create symphonic and atmospheric passages without using keyboards (not that keyboards is something bad but anyway...). The title track of this promo is actually a very good song and deserves a better production than this.
