REVIEW: Drugs Of Faith - Drugs Of Faith Selfmadegod Records, 2006
7.5/10
Drugs Of Faith - Drugs Of Faith - cover art Drugs of Faith are a three piece from the Northern Virginia/Washington DC area. This is their first “mini album”; after releasing some demo tapes the band has finally hooked up with a label. The band supposedly started from an idea to put a punk band together only to evolve into the hardcore rock they play today. Although D.O.F. haven’t committed themselves to being pigeonholed as any one style of music. You could mention hardcore, thrash, grind, sludge, punk and whatever else you can think of to describe them. What you can say is that their musicianship is impeccable. Playing very tight, crushing out thrashy grinding rhythm’s that sound original and fresh. The guitars surge to peaks of dissonance only to crash down through the thickly distorted bass lines. The fact that the vocals are clean while being shouted, and no barking is a relief. Too often singers feel the need to growl/bark which leaves their lyrics undecipherable. I find that this is where the hardcore element is most prominent. While the lyrics are partially of the political standpoint, this staples them along with other great (Napalm Death, Misery Index) acts out there touring these days. The drummer has a thrashy attack to his playing, which helps their overall sound to be more creative, while staying true to an old school sound.
