Intense and aggressive guitar walls, emotional guitar solos and melancholic melodies is what has characterized modern Swedish and Finnish metal in particular during the last few years. This is also the main elements that sums up the style of The Duskfall from Luleå in the north of Sweden. After two albums for the Greek label Black Lotus they have now switched to the metal giant Nuclear Blast, resulting in a bigger budget I suppose and probably the most massive sound they have had to show thus far. Once more they have worked with well-known sound wiz Daniel Bergstrand and his characteristic production is not difficult to recognize. The production is very Soilwork sounding if you know what I mean and the music is not alienated very far either. Typical 90s melodeath riffs with intense lead guitars and aggressive yet passionate vocals from frontman Kai Jaakkola (also known from Finnish death metallers Deathbound) who is doing a very good job behind the microphone. Far from original but both song writing and instrumental skills reach a high level within this band and there is a reason why The Duskfall have supported metal legends such as Slayer and Anthrax. "Lifetime Supply Of Guilt" is an album that starts with a mighty explosion of sheer energy but step by step turns into comfortable background music with occassional headbanger friendly thrash grooves as each track pass by. Good and solid metal done the Swedish way but rarely surprising.
