It seems that the hardcore and metalcore scenes are just exploding here in the States. While it may not be so much of an epidemic overseas, the main issue here is that there are too many bands, and most just happen to sound exactly like one another. However, Apiary does stand out from the crowd.
While the band does have a bit of a hardcore feel then metalcore, the typical elements are there. The band, however, isn't all that bad. Given the surplus of bands in this style, they manage to blend some good hardcore elements and metalcore brutality. However, one of the issues is the appearance sometimes of crappy hardcore guitar riffs reminiscent of Anterrabae or The Chariot. But luckily it's only once in a while.
Most of the breakdowns, such as the ones on "Omnipresence" and "Intervention", are actually pretty intense and aren't the same recycled crap another band already did, or a slow one that just has a random guitar riff, symbol strike, and silence. While the breakdowns are intense, so is the music before and after.
With great drum work and simple yet intimidating riffs mixed with some complex hardcore riffs (such as on "Intervention") accompanied by brutal vocals that match the music perfectly, the release easily stands out on it's own. Songs like "Bliss In Vain" and "Forced To Breathe" will make you want to throw down in your room. This CD is one to check out if you're into the style of music.
