REVIEW: Earth Crisis - To The Death Century Media, 2009
6.5/10
Earth Crisis - To The Death - cover art Ruthless devotion to a cause and ferocious musical styling define Earth Crisis. Although their last two albums were home to some Nu-Metal overtones and were all but panned by the Metal press, they certainly have always remained dedicated to the Straight Edge/Vegan message. To The Death is their first album in 9 years and harkens back to their early days, with a modern clean production.

Even with a contemporary production, it's still 1997 Metalcore. Certainly done well, however, it's risk free Earth Crisis, pandering to the 'no more Nu-Metal' crowd. Nonetheless, starting from album opener, "Against The Current," we race through eleven mosh pit inducing tunes, violent and face bashing perfection. Karl Buechner’s vocals remain brutal and fierce as ever, the forefront of everything Earth Crisis has ever done.

So the album is in fact a double-edged sword. A nice throwback that still leaves Earth Crisis indefinable in the scope of music history. They tried some things on Slither and Last of The Sane and maybe that didn't work out, but does that mean they should try and carbon copy Breed The Killers? I'm sure I'd appreciate these songs live, but at the same time I wanted more.
