REVIEW: Earthtone9 - Omega (EP) Copro Records, 2002
6/10
Earthtone9 - Omega (EP) - cover art Earthtone9 was originally formed back in 1996 in Nottingham, England, and the band was named from an opening line of a Helmet song called "The Meantime". The band also owe a lot of their musical influences to bands like Helmet, Tool and Deftones. They have been given a lot of attention in the press since they started out and Kerrang Magazine held them as one of the best newcomers on the British hard music scene but in April 2002 the band still decided to call it quits. This album can be seen as a farewell present to the fans and it contains four studio tracks plus a live version of their "Binary 101" song which was recorded at the Mean Fiddler in London. No matter what Kerrang says about this band I would be lying if I told you that I find this to be a masterpiece musically. This is not a bad band at all - they all know their instruments very well and the music is enjoyable but just like the case is with Deftones and Tool their music gets slightly boring at times. There are moments where these guys rock though such as the wonderful riffs at the end of "Revelation". The opener "Amnesia" is also a pretty good song. This mini album also contains two videos of "Amnesia" and "Tat Twam Asi" (what does that mean?). All in all this is something only for old fans of the band. If you are still new to Earthtone9 you might want to check out their full-length albums before purchasing this one. A little uneven but still a decent album.
