REVIEW: Easy Rider - Animal Locomotive Music, 2004
7.5/10
Easy Rider - Animal - cover art Easy Rider are veterans on the Spanish hard rock / heavy metal scene but they have still to make a real international breakthrough. Having been around since 1990 they have acquired some highly apparent instrumental skills but "Animal" lack the superb song writing needed to make it to the top. There are plenty of technical playing however and the band members' skills as instrumentalists make up for this in a very nice way. Apparently they have found a lot of inspiration in the genre known progressive rock and to this they have added their love for 80s heavy metal and more modern power metal. Even though the band hail from Madrid they have acquired an American singer called Ron Finn who used to be a member of the 80s thrash metal act Mace. He is doing his job very well on this album and while listening to the vocal lines bands like Judas Priest, Steel Prophet and Warrior come to mind. He is no Rob Halford of course but he still has a very versatile voice and it doesn't lose focus nor intensity throughout the entire album. If there would be a song writer with the same talents in the band then Easy Rider would probably make it to the top right away because that is the only thing that needs real improvement here. The production is superb but there is a little bit too much of everything from time to time. A good solid release though that will appeal to most fans of technical and progressive heavy / power metal I think.
