REVIEW: EchoBrain - EchoBrain Chophouse Records, 2002
2/10
EchoBrain - EchoBrain - cover art When Jason Newsted went public with his decision to leave the mighty Metallica most fans of the band were real shocked. Metallica still haven't been able to find a suitable replacement for Jason but Jason has not been inactive since his departure. Long before he left the band he had been working on his own project loosely entitled EchoBrain which he recorded on and off at his own studio. Now he is ready to release the first material of his own on his own independent label Chophouse Records. This album is a moody and atmospheric album as promised. The problem is that it is also one of the most boring releases I've heard in a long while. The guitars consists of a a long muddy path that leads up to absolutely nothing, the vocals are among the worst I've heard. It doesn't help that his old bandmate Kirk Hammett plays a few lines on "SuckerPunch". I really expected more than this from a Metallica member. Whatever you think about the latest Metallica releases they are a thousand times better than this album. Dull, grey pop music isn't really my thing. The album does have kind of a dirty punk feeling to it as well but that doesn't really help much...
