The press release accompanying Syracuse's finest describes an "angry-noise punk" style and that almost covers it. Elements of Thrash, Punk, Sludge, and plain ol' Noise just begin to cover what Ed Gein the band is about, but something seems to be missing, doesn't it? Yes, theirs is a potent dose of politically and socially charged mayhem akin to the hardest of Hardcore bands doused with a Grind and groove aesthetic. By the time the 5th song comes in, a definite Godflesh vibe is present, though with organic sounding drums and vocals, but like your last bout of diarrhea, this too shall pass. EG tends to defy description as do so many other bands out there these days, but they are definitely nothing like the reborn Combat Records' onslaught of weirdos. This is sick, heavy, and undaunted. Soilent Green at their most manic might get close. Labelmates and tour partners Animosity are an apt comparison, though this power trio from hell shares the vocal duties, not that you could tell, thus perhaps setting them apart. Either way, Ed Gein's atonal dissonance and the sheer anger on display here will crush you. After the record's official track listing is complete, a 14th track hides a brutal cover of Nirvana's "Breed" as an abusive ode virtually rendering the original obsolete, turning that band's Grunge into a hate-filled grudge. Forgive the band the excessive amount of random stuff to close out the record. We're talkin' barking dogs, driving cars, and weird telephone recordings, etc.
