Austria's Edenbridge is one of the few metal bands who have been blessed with a female vocalist who has decided to follow her own path instead of desperately trying to be Tarja Turunen or somebody else. On their fifth album "The Grand Design" she is the obvious highlight and she performs with such ease that I had a very pleasant time listening to her voice while reviewing the piece of plastic in my stereo. I'm not quite sure that she is best suited for rock or metal though. Edenbridge has a beautiful angel to front with but the backing up fails her this time. The song writing in the band seems to have reached a status quo and the material presented on "The Grand Design" is more soothing than it is exciting. I'm sure many teenagers who have discovered metal by listening to Nightwish will appreciate Edenbridge as well but those who are looking for something slightly more challenging will most likely not find any other use for this album than a cure for insomnia. A bit hars it may seem but I expect more from a band like Edenbridge who have been around for quite some time now.
