REVIEW: Eidolon - The Parallel Otherworld Escapi Music, 2006
7.5/10
Eidolon - The Parallel Otherworld - cover art Eidolon make somewhat progressive music, hard to really place in any corner, which is a good thing. ‘The Parallel Otherworld’ is Eidolon’s 8th production to this day. Beginning as an instrumental band they soon realised they needed an entire band to really make their statement in the metal scene. The titlesong starts the CD with an over 10-minute composition of decent quality. The music itself is very good, with a lot of variety. Unfortunately the vocal parts are somewhat annoying every now and then. Not because their out of tune, but because they do not fit in entirely with the song itself. The songs ‘Arcturus #9’ and ‘Ghost World’ are some of the best songs of the album, and hold great lyrics, which I haven’t seen in a while. Another song worth mentioning is ‘Thousand Winters Old’, which starts with a little digitised drum feel and heavy guitar riffs, this time the vocals do seem in place, and add up to a great song. Their music is comparable to heavy Ayreon songs and every now and then even a touch of Arcturus. A must for real fans of progressive metal, yet not something special for the ones slightly less interested. The music is mostly of very high quality, though the vocal parts are a bit annoying every now and then, as I explained above.
