REVIEW: Ektomorf - Outcast Nuclear Blast, 2006
7/10
Ektomorf - Outcast - cover art Since the beginning of their career Ektomorf constantly had to fight being just another Sepultura rip-off. Even though they’ve always had some Hardcore influence in their music (yes, had), their musical roots were always more than present. To finally reach a more unique sound I hoped for this album that the Hungarians would finally incorporate the gypsy folk elements INTO their songs instead of using them for intros, outros or interludes. “Ambush in the Night”, “Fuel My Fire” and “Hell Is Here” indeed show first attempts but still the folk elements are mostly present either during the beginning or the end of the songs. Way to go, maybe next time we get a fully folkloristic song. What else has changed? Actually nothing! Ektomorf still deliver solid thrash metal with groovy riffs and the usual “we hate racism” type of lyrics. Zoltan’s English pronunciation still isn’t the best but that somehow earns him a few credits with me for being human. Overall, I feel like this album was done in a hurry to keep the fans busy. Let’s hope they’ll take some more time with the next album
