REVIEW: Elfman - Common Sky W.A.B. Records, 2002
6.5/10
Elfman - Common Sky - cover art Elfman is a very young band that formed in 2000 in a small town in Austria or Germany. Now that they have been signed by the upcoming label Wait And Bleed Records they are ready to unleash their first work of art to the world entitled "Common Sky". The first thing that came to mind when I heard the first track of this album was: Korn. The last thing I said to myself when the echoes of the last track faded away was: Korn. It is inevitable that Elfman will be compared to Korn in many reviews in the next couple of weeks. They have the same weird tormented vocals and chaotic song structures that have made Korn one of the leading nu-metal bands in the world. Elfman is not an exact copy though. Their music is slightly more melancholic and displays a more experimental approach towards the use of electronics and samples. Elfman are not entirely without a musical identity of their own and this album is not bad at all but I think they will have to break away from the Korn sound if they want to make a lasting impression on the world of music, at least on me. Stand-out tracks: "Common Sky".
