REVIEW: Emancer - The Human Experiment Black Owl Records, 2003
7.5/10
Emancer - The Human Experiment - cover art Black metal from Norway. I can't say that I was too excited about it when I first read about this band and as I haven't heard their debut album from 2001 I knew not what I was to expect either. However, this was not as stereotypically Norwegian as I had thought. Having in mind that there are only two individuals behind this band I was even more impressed. The music is extremely tight, it is intense and exciting. There is always something going on and multi-instrumentalist Mithrin is definitely a very talented and creative guy. I have some reviews of this album praising it as one of the best albums ever from the Norwegian metal scene. I would not want to go that far though. "The Human Experiment" is a good solid album that should please most fans of melodic black / death metal in the vein of bands like Dissection and Emperor. However, it is not the most groundbreaking and amazing album ever released. The ground they're standing on is well-tread already but without repeating what others have done before they take a little bit from here and there and create their own nice little mixture. If you need an album to put next to the Dissection releases in your record collection then check this one out. If you think you have already had enough of that then don't.
