Those of you who despise grindcore and / or morbid lyrics can stop reading right now. Now that we've gotten rid of those people I strongly encourage you to read on. I am not very well versed in the grindcore genre but I know enough to know when I have found something interesting and this is definitely the case with this album. Embalming Theatre is, as you probably understand from the spelling, a European band, more specifically from Switzerland. Digging deeper than the morbid cover that comes with a grindcore release you will discover that there is also music that goes with it. Embalming Theatre have been around in various disguises since 1995 but they have changed their name twice since then. At first they were known as Maggots, then Anthropophagus and finally under the present monicker. When you listen to an album from horror fanatics Razorback Records you instantally know that you're dealing with a quality production and "Sweet Chainsaw Melodies" is no exception. The high-speed drumming, the thunderous bass background, the roaring vocals and the sharp guitars - every instrument has been given the right position in the intense mixture of sounds that you will encounter here. It is extremely tight, the songs are unusually dynamic and varied for a grindcore release and it stands clear right from an early stage that these guys have not exactly touched their instruments for the first time. It is not original but if you are into fast and brutal death metal or grindcore this is an album that will not disappoint you. Do you want to know what human flesh tastes like?
