REVIEW: En Las Espesas Nieblas - Promo 2002 Self-financed, 2002
7/10
En Las Espesas Nieblas - Promo 2002 - cover art This promo contains two songs of good length, both which will appear on Espesas Nieblas’s debut album. The songs are moderately paced melodic doom, complete with the melancholy, minus the depression. The neutral-melancholic mood is satisfying and pleasurable, rendering a peaceful state of mind. This mood-music is appropriate for every-day listening as it is not overly-energetic or dreadful, and their ability to create this mood indicates a very positive strength of the band. It is sometimes hard to find the perfect type of melancholic soundtrack in which to go about your day, and Espesas Nieblas has created music that matches my own daily moods. There are several muted guitar parts and guitar-drum duos which are very good, though clean vocals are not always on key. The growls could also be refined in power and grit, perhaps less ‘push’ and more flow. Lead guitarist demonstrates his ability to solo, though the fancy licks should be careful not to overpower the songs and their simplistic structures. Refine and revamp the solos and leave the improvisation out of the recording!
