REVIEW: Enemy Is Us - We Have Seen The Enemy... And The Enemy Is Us Crash Music Inc., 2005
6.5/10
Enemy Is Us - We Have Seen The Enemy... And The Enemy Is Us - cover art Enemy Is Us is a brand new Swedish death / thrash metal band that features former Seethings guitarist Ronnie Nyman on vocals and former Darkane vocalist Lawrence Mackrory on bass / vocals. Their debut album is easily mentioned in the same sentence as At The Gates although "We Have Seen The Enemy..." has a cleaner, less personal sound and more standardized riffs. It is still enjoyable, groovy, catchy, melodic and aggressive with strong vocals. The song "The Walking Dead" also includes a guest apperance from Defleshed's Gustaf Jorde. The problem with this album is however that no song sticks out that much from the rest. They make a few attempts at revitalizing the At The Gates sound with a more modern touch in the direction that The Haunted went after the demise of the legendary melodic death / thrash pioneers but it still feels as if you have heard it all before far more than just once. A decent album but unless you are one of those who just can't have enough of Swedish metal it has little new to offer. They want to be The Haunted so bad that they forget about creating something of their own. Should be a killer live though.
