REVIEW: Engorged - Engorged Deathvomit Records, 2002
7.5/10
Engorged - Engorged - cover art Even though Oregon based Engorged have managed to write a worthless biography on themselves (that will amuse very few people I am sure) they are one of the top American grindcore bands at present. The band have adapted a low profile it seems but two of the members are also active in the black metal band Thy Infernal. With strong death metal influences they have succeeded in the diffucult task to create a grindcore album which is both extremely fast but also full of classic thrash metal riffs and high speed melodies that reminds a lot of black metal. That is rare today and I do appreciate them very much for this. Even though this album was simply titled "Engorged" it is not the first release from the band. Their debut was released by the American death metal specialists at Razorback Records but now they have been picked up by the Necropolis sublabel Deathvomit Records who realized that the band had potential. I can only tell that they were not wrong in their analysis because "Engorged" is a high quality release that should appeal to anyone with a taste for brutal death metal and grindcore. If you enjoy bands like Impetigo, Carcass and Repulsion this is for you. Nothing groundbreaking but a quality product. The only thing that needs a little bit of improvement is the production.
