This is the first time I come in contact with this Italian band which is a shame because what I heard when the first track of this album started pouring out of my speakers was some of the most innovative metal I've heard in a long time. Blending the powerful keyboard driven Dimmu Borgir sound with more progressive gothic metal influences Ensoph have found themselves a unique mixture that is truely impressive. At times they remind me a little of the Russian avantgarde black metallers Rakoth in the way they use more traditional folk / ethnic sounds in their songs. Another band that comes to mind is Peccatum, the progressive gothic metal band run by Ihsahn of Emperor fame. There are many words that can be used to describe this album but they will all be futile attempts in describing something that has to be experienced. It is everchanging, powerful, majestic, epic, beautiful, chilling, aggressive, violent, chaotic. Almost every adjective in the vocabulary can fit well when trying to put the finger on the essence of Ensoph. If you like black, folk, gothic and doom metal then this disc is definitely for you to check out. Highly recommended for those of you who consider yourselves being open-minded metal fans. Twisted and unpredictable.
