The semi-oriental and eccentric Italian metal band Ensoph quickly became one of my favorite bands when I was first introduced to them through their 2004 album "Opus Dementiae". Those of you who are familiar with that minor masterpiece will not be disappointed nor surprised by their latest opus "Project X-Katon". The band's penchant for esoteric literature and obscure theologies remain untouched and the theatrical and dramatic elements of their music have been maintained and developed further, even more establishing Ensoph as one of the most unique and avantgarde of today's gothic metal bands, if that is the appropriate genre to place their music which is unlike any other band within my knowledge span. A band's uniqueness is unfortunately usually the band's biggest weakness and strength at the same time because it is very difficult to develop within the frames that you have carefully ornamented for many years. Ensoph have not quite succeeded in the close to impossible task of renewal but I personally don't mind as their rich and dynamic song writing has enchanted me once again. It is beautiful, it is enticing and seducing, it is mind challenging and intelligent music well suited for 21st century metal fans on the search for a fresh taste.
