REVIEW: Enter The Hunt - Become The Prey Epic Records, 2006
6/10
Enter The Hunt - Become The Prey - cover art Enter The Hunt was assembled a few years back by former Candlemass colleagues Björn Flodkvist and Mats Ståhl together with the Krixhjälters / Omnitron rhythm section of Pontus Lindqvist and Stefan Kälfors alongside vocalist Krister Linder. The frontman is in possession of one hell of a voice and although he doesn't make the most of it he proves to be a very important asset to the band. Musically Enter The Hunt are difficult to categorize but they are very modern sounding, unfortunately letting themselves be dragged into simplistic nu-metal song writing techniques. Making up for this mistake is, Linder's performance aside, their abilitiy to create a dark, thick and melancholic atmosphere which at times almost reminds me of Sweden's own progressive postcore masters Cult Of Luna. The three songs presented on this debut EP of their's are all very similar which may be a negative remark but on the other hand they seem to have found a path to follow. A decent first effort but I hope they will experiment more next time. If you dare you either win or lose, if not you're standing still.
