REVIEW: Enthroned - Armoured Bestial Hell Blackend Records, 2001
6.5/10
Enthroned - Armoured Bestial Hell - cover art Belgium is a country with a strong underground scene as it comes to extreme metal but there are also a couple of bands who have gained worldwide attention. The most famous band is probably Ancient Rites but Enthroned should not be forgotten either. Enthroned actually released a 7" split EP together with Ancient Rites in 1994 on the soon defunct Afterdark Records. Now we are in the year 2001 and a new album is released from the band. "Armoured Bestial Hell" shows more diversity than the previous efforts from Enthroned and apart from the usual speed and aggression this time they have also included a few slower, more melodic passages which sound, if not extremely beautiful, so at least nice enough. This is one of those bands who have stuck to the old black metal style without the keyboards and female vocals of so many other bands today. They sound a bit similar to the well-known Swedish band Marduk although they might not be playing quite as fast as them and they also have more death metal influences. This is fairly well done black metal in the old vein but still it doesn't really bring about anything new.
