REVIEW: Entombed - Morning Star Music For Nations, 2001
9/10
Entombed - Morning Star - cover art As you probably know by now Entombed have come a long way since they released groundbreaking death metal albums like "Left Hand Path" and "Clandestine" in the early 90's. Today they aren't a real death metal band any longer, or at least not a conventional one. The music still sounds very similar to their early days with crushing riffs and a super-heavy groove. The vocals of today aren't exactly the same as before though. On this album they sound like a mix of death metal growls and stoner rock vocals which gives Entombed a rough edge that is suited for their kind of metal which could perhaps be labelled as death 'n roll. They have maintained the dirty sound that was evident in their early releases. Usually I'm not that fond of this kind of sound but Entombed still manages to get to me in some strange way. They have always been one of the best Swedish death metal bands and this album is without a doubt one of the best metal releases of 2001. According to the Swedish metal magazine Close-Up it was the 4th best release of the year. Whether you are a fan of hardcore, stoner rock are death metal this is an album worth checking out.
