Enuma Elish hails from Spain, mixing the melodic aspects of power metal with gothic-like vocals and some good guitar parts. The title of this demo is in no way strange as this is Enuma Elish’ second demo. First of all I must state that the cover of this demo is amazing, and somehow it made me expect a lot from this 20-minute musical trip. The fonts used in the booklet seem “quite” familiar to Demons & Wizards’ latest album, but it's about the music after all. First up is the song “I feel”, which includes choir-like vocal parts combined with a few slashes on guitar. Though I like the idea, the vocals are not very convincing and do not sound attractive enough to make me desire the rest of the demo from the start. The drums are not extremely full of variety but provide a basic rhythm for the song. The guitar work is quite good and the solo in this song is very good. However, I do get back at disliking the vocal parts. It’s not bad, but it sounds like a lot of trouble must be taken to reach this sound and every now and then it just sounds way off.
Next up is a song called “Blind”. The guitars sound great in the beginning of the song, and the structure of the song is not bad at all, though once again I come to dislike the vocals. The music itself reminds me of a Machine Head song, though it's intended otherwise, but the vocals turn a song that could have been great into something which is almost painful listening, especially the high pitches Sara de Andres tries to conjure up. The backing vocals do sound good however. Reaching the third song of the demo “No One Else” I’m quite surprised by the intro. It’s an intro formed solely by bass and sounds very good, especially when the guitars join in. The song starts in an amazing way and it adds quite some versatility to the demo, giving it some different aspects. The lyrics of this song are also very good, but it breaks my heart to say it again, the vocals just don’t do it. Last of the four is “Strongest Child”, which again shows some great potential music wise. Lyricwise it’s also worth checking out, and all in all all four songs are quite decent. Unfortunately there was one thing, as you might have understood by now, that really troubles me while listening this demo. The music was good, the lyrics (except for some minor errors and strange things) were good, but the vocals just couldn’t cut it. I’d recommend this band to metalheads who are in for something new, but only as soon as they find a different vocalist.
