Eostenem is a one-man band from France and this is their third album already. Being from France and even a one-man band doesn’t seem like a big advantage, on the contrary. And, when I read the label's promo material where Eostenem is labeled as one of the revelations in Metal whom we all have been waiting for, my entire optimism faded away. But, it’s not so bad as the aforementioned two might predict. The entire album is based on Black Metal mostly but has a strong influence from Death Metal and more importantly a lot of electronics and Dark Wave atmospheres. This combination of various elements might be hailed as a brave attempt to finally bring something new into the Metal scene. But, the major question is if it’s done in a good way? And my answer to that is ‘well, not so much’. The album has some very interesting moments in all of the mentioned genres, but in the end, it’s not blending them in the way you would expect. So, in a song it’s like having a few independent songs each time the musical background is changed, i.e. from Black to Death to electro. Maybe the area attempted to be included in the album is too wide for this way of song building? Anyway, fresh blood is always welcome and Eostenem offers some interesting ideas for consideration. If you are looking for something new, you might try it, but if you are looking for an established band with an established sound maybe this wouldn’t be your dish now.
