REVIEW: Escape From Earth - Gravity Self-financed, 2000
6.5/10
Escape From Earth - Gravity - cover art This is a hard rock/thrash metal hybrid band from Park Ridge, Illinois (that is in the US for those unaware of that fact). Unfortunately for the band this kind of music is not popular with the record companies these days when we´re being overrun by the power metal train. Otherwise this is definitely a band in the upper league of this genre and they have put a lot of passion and playfulness into these eight/nine tracks of oral pleasure. Escape From Earth has stated that they are tired of all the depressive tunes in the music world and they want to change that by composing music that is fun yet heavy and with happy or at least not "go kill yourself" lyrics. Even though I fancy misanthropic bands like Carpathian Forest and Satyricon as well as sadness incarnated - My Dying Bride - I also know how to appreciate good music in general. Escape From Earth´s contribution to the metal world is more than welcome and this is an album worth buying for all fans of softer thrash/heavy metal and hard rock. The album is professionally produced and the cover art looks really good. The first three tracks on this album are very good indeed with heavy metal riffs, a nice groove and creative use of vocals but then the quality of the songs tend to fade out towards the end. The album is surely worth the money though and if you would like to purchase it and/or learn more about the band go visit their website.
