As a whole, the Esoteric experience can be beheld as a transcendental journey into a reflective introspection through notes conforming a particular brand of music. Music. Extreme music. Deliberately or not, the concept of extreme is strongly associated to speed and aggression, most of the time. But what ends when symbols shatter, and extreme sonic expressions come under the slow dress? Well, Esoteric is one of the most extreme bands in the full sense of the word, despite their faster parts can consist of one snare drum hit in four seconds... don't take too seriously this last sentence, you've grasped the essence; probably you already know we're before one of the most crushing, merciless, despondent, sick and psychedelic bands of all time, holding the banner of slow doom metal sometimes called ultra doom or funeral doom. Esoteric carry that definition further, though. Towards points of no return...
Their music is more complex in the very essence and will. The use of elements like keys, multi-layered textures and psychotropic substances makes them so special and unearthly unique. Hereby portrayed is another token of their perversion of the doom genre. Carrying beyond the slowness, loose chords falling like ruins trademark of the style, these English gentlemen conduct a titanic creature which is able to touch and squeeze the psyche of the listener, they build and raise a monster which flees out of their hands, a majestic phenomenon surmounting the boundaries of words to describe it. “The Blood of the Eyes” is the key track here, to mark my words: an outstanding piece of art by itself, separate from the rest in every sense. Seldom one can taste magnificence made music... three notes as start, repeating over and over again, but how sweet notes, wisely picked, sensitively played with those smooth reverbs... tremolo/delays floating, hmmm... It's almost unreal how this track grows on you every time it is played. Yes, you know when the change comes, you know what's next... nevermind. It always possesses you. In fact this song alone could blur the other tracks; error. However, the rest of the tracks mean a change of focus in the execution and are more typically Esoteric in the melodic mayhem behind the desperate lines. The mastery in creating those stout dense textures is once again demonstrated; no deceptions, certainly. Just a last warning: as usual, don't take this one without a relevant prescription.
