This is the debut album from Eternal Flight, a young French band that was created in 2001 by former Dream Child vocalist Gérard Fois among others. The band name comes from a song off Dream Child's first album. Fois is a decent power metal vocalist but he does not have a very personal way of singing, nor does he have enough strength and depth in his voice to be credited with the title "elite singer". Further dissecting "Positive Rage", the album represents a musical bridge between Nevermore and Judas Priest, consisting mostly of rather fast-paced and catchy power metal with progressive overtones. At first the positive energy and power of their music strikes the listener with admiration but unfortunately most songs seem to be constructed in a similar fashion and in the end the much too often repeated patterns and sterile drum beats tend to be annoying instead of entertaining.
There are a few releasing moments when the stereotypical power metal songs are interrupted by calmer sections or more aggressive guitar riffs. Once in a while when this happens, Eternal Flight show us that there is potential for musical growth and development within the band but they need to find the will to change and a more creative spirit somewhere. Even though I am sure that effort has been put into the writing of each and every song it falls flat far too often and the debut from Eternal Flight will have a very hard time competing with other recent power metal releases. Works well as background music and it is not at all a bad album but something is missing in order for the songs to come alive. Too little is happening and it is a very predictable album which might suit some power metal fans.
