Eternal Oath isn't exactly one of the most productive bands
from the Swedish metal scene but now they have finally completed their second
full-length album entitled "Righteous". They have had to look around for a
new label deal as well since their former label Pulverised Records was put to
rest in late 2000 or early 2001. Eternal Oath was formed in 1991 and features
Peter Nagy on guitars, a man who has been seen in many other Swedish bands
such as Mörk Gryning, Wyvern and Hypocrite. I am not very familiar with
their older material but their sound of today is very Swedish indeed with
plenty of melodies á la Gothenburg. Sometimes they manage to outdo many of
their peers such as on the wonderful title track which is built on a beautiful
key melody that will make all fans of melodic death metal happy. The biggest
thing that separates Eternal Oath from many other bands who dwell in their
subgenre is that their vocals are slightly more brutal and similar to what
Aaron used to produce on the early My Dying Bride releases. If I am not
completely mistaken they have also included some female vocals on "Crown Of
Emptiness", a track that also features clean male vocals and overall sounds
very Gardenian like. The premier league is still inhabited by Dark
Tranquillity and In Flames but if you want to start exploring the first
division Eternal Oath are among the better ones. Stand-out tracks: "Preserve
The Emotions", "Righteous", "Crown Of
Emptiness".
