Listening to this album for the first time I had a feeling that I've heard it all somewhere before, but I couldn't exactly put my finger on what it was. Later on I saw Children of Bodom performing at SRF and a sense of AHA spread through me. This album doesn't differ much from any Children of Bodom you would choose. The recipe is pretty much the same, except for the shredding solos, that don't appear much on this release. The actual performance on the album is flawless, with a solid production, but as usual with this so called melodic death metal, I break into laughter from time to time. "Wither" is filled with humorous power metal clichées that don't quite fit in but it also has its highlights. I like the riff that opens the whole album, for example. And although the music is a copy of Children of Bodom I sometimes find it better and easier to listen to than the obvious inspiration source. What I think that this band should do is try to find their own niche instead of taking so much from others. The album is filled with potential of being something else than a copycat. For example the slow and yet so filled with emotions "As I Turn Away" and all those acoustic bits that have a sort of mellow and dark atmosphere. There's much material to work with, and hopefully the band will explore those paths in the next release. Now, I'm not really into this mixture between power and death metal and I am definitely not into the tribute to power metal: "Wings Of Darkness" with all its castrate vocals and all of that but I still see some potential in this band. I probably wouldn't buy this album but right now I associate it with good old festival times, so it will probably work for me the whole summer. If you like metal à la Children Of Bodom, don't hesitate, get this album now. As for me, I think I am going to stick with good old fashion melodic thrash metal or classic death.
