REVIEW: Evereve - Regret Nuclear Blast, 1999
9.5/10
Evereve - Regret - cover art Referred to me as "Gothic with clean male vocals", my feeling when listening to it was far from regret but rather love at first earing! I just couldn't stop playing this great piece of art. And just have a look at the cover and inside paintings, it's just plain gorgeous art. As far as the reference for being Gothic, it was right but I never expected such a great low tone voice. Gee I like this guy's voice! Many good bands could easily become great if they would have Benjamin Richter as a singer and by the way, this guy is no longer with the band so... This album contains eight original tracks and two remakes of the classic song "The House Of The Rising Sun" by the Animals. As far as I'm concerned, the one on track number five is awesome but I could have done without a lesser good version on position ten. The mood that best describes "Regret" is: Intense. You have the feeling that Benjamin gave everything he had and did it with no restraint. Most songs are mid-tempo with heavy guitars, colourful keyboard arrangements, tight and precise bass and drums with a spooky atmosphere floating around throughout the album... Highly seductive and addictive let me tell you! I personally love keyboards that either add an atmospheric sound or colour and intriguing sounds to a piece. But don't be afraid by this because this is not a dance music album! To name a few goodies, worth mentioning are: "Mysery's Dawn", "Fall Into Oblivion" , "House Of The Rising Sun (the one on spot number five)" and "Passion And Demise". I can only wish that every metal fan would have the opportunity as I had to discover this great musical experience.
