REVIEW: Evidence One - Tattooed Heart Nuclear Blast, 2004
7.5/10
Evidence One - Tattooed Heart - cover art "Tattooed Heart" is the second album from Germany's Evidence One, the band featuring Domain vocalist Carsten Schulz. With a slight oriental touch they are firmly rooted in traditional European hard rock but by adding more guitar muscle they are going to find themselves joining the heavier league of bands. Carsten's voice is armed with both power and a wide range and the similarities to Jorn Lande are striking although Masterplan is more of a progressive band while Evidence One rely more on straight-forward heavy metal song writing. The concept is old but why fix what is already working? There are sing-along choruses, catchy riffs, memorable melodies and well placed solos. "Tattooed Heart" is no masterpiece of uncomparable dimensions but it is a piece of art that has been carved with large amounts of care, class and style, resulting in music which is not only enjoyable but also stands well in the 21st century. It is a timeless recording which should be appreciated by most fans of melodic hard rock / heavy metal.
