“Radio Ixtlan” is my first encounter with Ewigkeit, despite the amount of albums released so far by this weird project led by Mr. Fog. Promo ornaments said this album “could be described as a ´Dark Side Of The Moon for the Death Metal Generation´ and hints at a possible way forward for the scene”. Well, let´s sit down and relax, that´s just too much... praiseworthy are the efforts to do something unique –that thing alone is worth good words-, but Pink Floyd isn´t the easiest thing to match, even speaking in those loose terms. Of course, “Radio Ixtlan” won´t make history. However, here and there on the album one can find some good moments and some inspiring passages, but there´s no connection of any kind between several tracks of the album, it lacks seriously some sort of unity and feeling. Variety isn´t enough to attract the listener, if it becomes a collage, an amalgam of different things just put together in a compact disc. This is the case. Despite of that, the intent of being original makes some tunes of the album interesting and enjoyable if you are eager to try something different from the amount of crap popping on and on these days, but this album is nothing more than a collection of weird songs of manifold styles. Its length, just 39 minutes, makes it better to the taste and one can´t complain about it being uncomfortable. Some tracks are even groovy and cheerful, others are simply average or dull. Anyway, neither metal parts are certainly astonishing nor the psychedelic side of the music is able to convince the listener at all. Just an average album, I think.
