REVIEW: Exciter - New Testament Osmose Productions, 2004
7.5/10
Exciter - New Testament - cover art I'm not too familiar with the original versions of these songs, so I don't have those to compare these with. But just judging from what I've heard here, these are some damn good songs. Ballsy, aggressive, take-no-prisioners speed metal, (like a cross between Judas Priest and Motorhead), just the way it should be played, damn it! What really struck me was the punk-ish production. Very raw and unpolished, with almost all of the rough edges left alone, which kind of works with this type of music, so we won't slag it. However, what we will slag is the guitar. It's like Motorhead, circa the Fast Eddie years, which worked for them at the time, but it doesn't really work well here. The songs here really beg for a beefier guitar sound. Some of the songs would sound MUCH better with a better produced guitar. Just about all the songs here range from really fucking awesome("Violence And Force") to just ok("Black Witch"). The vocals are very solid and just scream "Heavy FUCKING Metal!!!!", the bass is solid and steady, as are the drums. Overall, if you like fast, raw, insane speed metal, you will like this. Like I said above, don't know the originals too well, but based on other re-recording albums out there, i'm sure the originals are superior, so you might want to check those out first. But what's here is great, and most importantly......it's heavy METAL!!!!
