Exodus. If you’re like me, when you hear that name, you think face ripping riffs, pure raw aggression, and the good ol’ Bay Area. That’s right, I’m talking about the Bay Area thrash legends (in the metal circles, anyway), Exodus. And for the first time since 1993's “Force Of Habit”, the thrash titans are finally releasing a new album. And how is it? Well, I’m very happy to say, that “Tempo Of The Damned” RULES!!! It’s just about everything you’d want in a thrash album. From the head bursting opener “Scar Spangled Banner”, to fiery thrash frenzy of the closing title track.
It’s all here. Riffs galore, from the occasional groove riff to the tasty thrash riff, lots of fast drums, bass lines beaten into your cranium, and who can forget the “Bon Scott goes thrash” vocals of Steve “Zetro” Souza!? Highlights, you ask? Well, that’s a hard question, since there are several, but the one song that caught my attention from the start is “Blacklist.” RIIIIIFFS! Lots of ‘em too! An all you can eat riff buffét, if I ever heard one! Other highlights include the aforementioned opener, “Scar Spangled Banner”, “Shroud Of Urine”(you gotta love that title!), with its pounding thrash riff, “Forward March” is another good one, despite the fact that Souza’s vocal delivery is painfully close to rapping, but does it bog down the quality? Nope, not in the least.
So, needless to say, this album is totally worth getting. When you find this, don’t be a wuss. Put your grubby hands around it, take it to the cashier, fork out the cash, go home, throw it on the CD player and prepare for your skull to be CRUSHED!!! This is easily one of the best thrash albums released in a long time, and no self-respecting metalhead should miss out on this stellar album.
