Face Down Hero from Hessen Germany commit thereselves to straight, modern metal since their foundation in 2004. In March 2007 the band released their first full-lenght album and performed on some festivals with well-known bands. Exactly one year later, so in March 2008, the second album Where all this anger grows was released and the band wanted to show a more agressive and darker face.
The album title Where all this anger grows sounds sounds quite much like Metalcore. But suprisingly the listener is confronted with a Thrash Metal band, which is slightly influenced by Metalcore, but also by Old School Thrash Metal of the Bay Area.
The intro of the first song "Bursting Evolution" starts with melancholic clean guitars, which are in the end accompanied by distorted guitar. Then the song really starts and already shows what the band's sound on this second album is made of. Modern trashing guitars, reminding of Soilwork, fight against Old School Thrash Chord- and Melody riffs and shred soli, rather influenced by bands like Slayer. Besides that some guitar parts remind of Melodic Death riffs. Time and again there are some clean parts. But those elemtens flow homogenously into each other.
The vocals seem to be influenced by classical Thrash-shouts like in Kreator, but also remind in parts very much of the agressiv growls used by Soilwork. Vocalist Kali also doesn't shrink back of modern vocal effects for spoken parts like in the song "My needless helping Hand".
All in all the sound quality of the album is very professional and powerful. Fitting to the agressive sound. Only poin of critisism is the snare drum, which is quite loud and sounds a bit whishy-washy.
