REVIEW: Faerghail - Blood Will Follow Blood Northern Sound, 2000
6/10
Faerghail - Blood Will Follow Blood - cover art Faerghail is a band from the land of a thousand lakes (i.e. Finland) that has been around since 1995. They play melodic heavy metal but with mostly black metal vocals (there are some weird dark clean ones on "Rain" as well). The band has already released two full-length albums on the Belgian label The Last House Company (previously known as Shiver Records) where the amazing Opera IX used to reside before inking a deal with Avantgarde Music. This MCD starts out promising with the very melodic opener in Finnish (even though I´m from Sweden I don´t understand the lyrics since Finnish is a completely different language as you may already know) but then there is a little lacking on the next two tracks and then there is a beautifully melodic finishing track. The keyboards are mostly supportive but sometimes they are quite prominent and makes for an orchestral approach. Even though Faerghail shows talent and is a promising melodic metal act the music tends to get a little noisy at times and the vocals are mostly just annoying, not really suited for this kind of music in my opinion. A fairly good release that is not bad nor amazing. I think fans of melodic black metal could enjoy this one the most.
