REVIEW: Falkenbach - Ok Nefna Tysvar Ty Napalm Records, 2003
6/10
Falkenbach - Ok Nefna Tysvar Ty - cover art This is the third full-length album of Falkenbach, one-man project of V. Vratyas. This time he choose three musicians for help - Bolthorn, Hagalaz and Tyrann. After many, many years of waiting we had the right to expect very good material. And so... there is "Ok Nefna Tysvar Ty". But is it the album we are waiting for? This is a hard thing for a fan of any band to write about an album which is more difficult than others. So now I'm in a similar situation. I don't want to write that the new Falkenbach is a bad album. But... Well, we have here over 40 minutes of epic folk metal in seven tracks. The new material is more melodic and (it's hard to find a good word...) clear. All the raw and war climate of the old Falkenbach records go away. There is no black metal vocals, only clean. For some this may be good, for some - no. Today's Falkenbach is more acoustic aftre all. "The Ardent Awaited Land" - old song from "...En Their Medh..." was re-recorded and it's a good example of the Falkenbach changes. The new wersion is more delicate and acoustic. The sound of the album is also too clear and the atmosphere of old times has simply disappeared. After listening to this album I've got a problem - how to estimate this strange album? If it could be compared with old Falkenbach records my estimation wouldn't be so high. And so it is. But if you like folk / epic metal you should listen to "Ok Nefna Tysvar Ty".
