After having release two albums - "Rape In Rapture" (1999) and "Divine Desecrate Complete" (2001) - for No Fashion Records, the Swedish black metal act Misteltein went through some line-up changes. While members Hel and Nagrinn trademarked the name Misteltein after leaving in 2004 other members formed a new band called Fall Ov Serafim who have now found a new home at Regain Records for the release of their debut album "Nex Iehovae". A powerful production and a more direct approach brings Fall Ov Serafim closer to the forefront of Swedish black metal than Misteltein ever was. Relying less on keyboards, while not avoiding using them when appropriate, and not limiting themselves to merely black metal elements when composing has proven to be the right path to follow. Incorporating influences from death metal and thrash metal will probably make their music appeal to a wider audience, yet they have not distanced themselves too far from their past to maintain the Misteltein fanbase. Carefully moving forward, Fall Ov Serafim made a positive first impression on me. Not amazing but a good solid (re)start.
