REVIEW: Fallen Within - Promo 2005 Self-financed, 2005
9/10
Fallen Within - Promo 2005 - cover art Fallen Within is a band hailing from Greece. According to the information I got with this promo – that has the simple name promo 2005 - they play Swedish melodic death. Please understand that I was more than disbelieving because these are some high expectations to meet but once in a while promos actually meet these expectations. Well, I wouldn’t exactly agree that Fallen Within play Swedish melodeath but you can surely hear some Scandinavian and Finnish influence. Unfortunately, this promo contains only three songs, which left me with a desire for more, but these three tracks already show that the band has a lot of potential. The 6 Greeks managed to create a sound that lives off its stomping riffs on the one hand and off its melodic keyboard parts that at times remind me a bit of Nightwish on the other hand. The vocals change from death growls to clean singing, which fits perfectly to the concept of melodic death metal because it underlines the contrast between heaviness and melodic parts without sounding too cheesy or mainstream. The only thing I have to complain is that due to the production the vocals don’t sound as clear as they could be, so let’s hope that they will improve on that next time. But overall, this band manages to create a sound that doesn’t have to stand back from other melodeath bands. We can all be curious what their first full-length work will sound like.
