REVIEW: Feinstein - Third Wish Magic Circle Music, 2004
8/10
Feinstein - Third Wish - cover art David Feinstein used to be the guitarist of the legendary band Elf in the early 70s, the band where vocalist Ronnie James Dio started out for real. Now he has written enough material to produce the debut album of his own solo project, simply titled Feinstein. Joining him on vocals we have no other than John West who has released several solo albums himself as well as lended his vocal skills to bands like Royal Hunt and Artension. Musically this is basically a mix of commercial American hard rock á la Whitesnake and more metal oriented music such as the early work from Yngwie Malmsteen and Manowar. The musicianship and vocals are both working on a very high level here of course as we have a lot of individual talent residing within the band. The rest of the line-up is made up of Karma and Foghat bassist Jeff Howell, keyboardist Bob Twining and drummer Nate Horton. The production was handled by Manowar's Joey DeMaio who also releases this album under his Magic Circle Music label, although licensed to Germany's Steamhammer / SPV. The album is indeed enjoyable but doesn't really offer any surprises. If you are a big fan of traditional hard rock / heavy metal than there is a chance you will enjoy this a lot though.
